Italian firm awaits tannery waste approval

Arzignano-based fertilizer manufacturer Ilsa Group is awaiting approval for the Brazilian market of a product it makes from tannery waste.

Ilsa established a facility in Portão in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul (one of the country’s principal leather-producing states) in 2009 and is hopeful of securing a licence to sell its tannery effluent-based product on the Brazilian market before the end of this year.

By June the company expects to have results from extensive tests on the product carried out by analysts at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, which it will then submit for licensing to the federal ministry of agriculture in Brasilia.
