Lula takes trade talks to Russia
14/05/2010
The president committed to asking his counterpart, Dimitry Medvedez, for special conditions for exports of Brazilian beef and by-products to the Russian market. At the moment, unlike the US and Brazil, Brazil is included in a group that Russia refers to as 'other countries'. Brazil too wants its own quota for the Russian market and President Lula has vowed to play a direct part in the negotiations.
Trade talks were an important part of the agenda for an official state visit by the Brazilian president on May 15. Both countries aim to double the value of bilateral trade, which fell by 40% during the economic downturn, and to diversify the products they sell to one another.
