Australian beef exports register eighth consecutive monthly drop
12/05/2010
Beef exports from Australia fell by 7% in April compared to the same month in 2009.
This represents the eighth consecutive monthly decline in exports for the Australian beef industry as farmers send fewer animals for slaughter.
April exports reached almost 75,000 tonnes of beef and veal, bringing the total for the first four months of 2010 to 263,000 tonnes. Collectively, this represents a 12% fall on the total for 2009 and means the Australian beef industry has had its slowest start to any year since 2004.
