Indian leather exports down by nearly 12%

Indian leather exports for the first eleven months of the current financial year (April 2009–February 2010) fell just short of $3 billion, compared to $3.4 billion over the corresponding period last year. This represents a fall of 11.8% in dollar terms. However, in local currency terms, the decrease was 5.4%.

Exports of finished leather fell by 16.8% to $538.5 million from $647.1 million, leather footwear by 10% to just over $1 billion, leathergoods by 15.2% to $693.2 million and
footwear components by 18.9% to $192.3 million.
