Goodwill from China takes Bangladesh by surprise
07/05/2010
Trade officials in Bangladesh are reported to have been taken by surprise when their counterparts in China offered to extend duty-free access to nearly 5,000 Bangladeshi products in what has been described as “a major goodwill gesture”.
The offer came at the end of April following a state visit to China by prime minister, Sheikh Hasina Wazed.
Reports in Bangladesh say that China has placed no conditions on the new trade proposals and has asked for no reciprocal action on Bangladesh’s part.
The list includes hides, leather and footwear.
