Mato Grosso government offers tax break on livestock
04/05/2010
The state government of Mato Grosso has agreed to lower the tax on live cattle moving to other Brazilian states from 7% to 4%. The association of livestock farmers of Mato Grosso (Acrimat) has welcomed the move.
Acrimat president, Luciano Vacari, commented: “This shows that the government of Mato Grosso is sensitive to the need we have to make the livestock sector in this state more competitive.”
Livestock farmers in the northeast of the state received a similar tax break last year as they were affected by the closure of a number of local abattoirs. Acrimat said at the time that the government ought to extend the measure to the whole of the state.
