Leather and footwear secure samples tax-exemption

The president of the National Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers (ANCI), Vito Artioli, has issued a statement welcoming new tax-exemption measures for which leathergoods and footwear manufacturers will now qualify. The measures relate to expenses for making samples and prototypes.

The measures were already in place for companies in other parts of the fashion supply chain, but leather and footwear were originally missed out.

ANCI campaigned for the change, and said it was grateful for the support of a number of politicians. Mr Artioli said he was particularly grateful to the regional president of Le Marche—an area with many high-end leather footwear manufacturing companies—Gian Mario Spacca for his support.

In a statement, Mr Artioli said: “I wish to highlight that any future law proposals that aim to provide a tangible contribution towards the stability and consolidation of the Italian fashion supply chain through tax breaks or incentives for business investments should take into consideration that the footwear sector is wholly and inextricably linked to that of textiles and clothing.”
