Croupon prices rise in Turkey

According to leather industry commentators in Turkey, raw material prices have risen since the beginning of the year.

The price of wet salted croupon for sole leather was reportedly between 2.6 and three euros per kilo prior to the economic downturn. During 2009, the price dropped to between 1.2 and 1.6 euros per kilo; however prices are now at around 2.5-2.8 euros per kilo.

This has come as a surprise to industry representatives for a number of reasons. These are that the global slaughter of cattle, ox and buffalo has not dropped and that demand for sole leather has not increased (in fact, there has been a gradual decrease over the last two years).
