CLIA focuses on environment
Speaking at the China National Council of Light Industry (CNCLI) AGM on April 7, president of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), Madame Zhang said it was to introduce three new environmental measures.
She started by saying that China was effectively handling the economic downturn by concentrating on energy-saving measures and the reduction of emissions, as well as improving on quality. She said that there has already been remarkable progress in terms of environmental protection, including cleaner production, improved effluent treatment plants, the promotion of eco-leather and in implementing new technology to save energy and cut down on emissions.
She added that the CLIA will take three measures to improve even further. The first will be to eliminate stock that does not fit with current policies and standards, while the second is to launch a campaign with the aim of shaking off the highly polluting image associated with the Chinese tanning industry. The third is to explore a new pollution treatment method setting up a pilot plant in Fuxin city.
At the end of her speech Madame Zhang pointed out that growth and efficiency will come about as a result of these measures.
