More efficient warehouse management at Mulberry
UK-based luxury leathergoods brand Mulberry has introduced new technology from supply chain optimiser Manhattan Associates’ at its distribution centre in Somerset, in the south west of England.
In spite of the recession, Mulberry has recently seen a significant increase in demand. To cope with this increase and to manage multi-channel orders, the company decided to switch from a manual, paper-based system to the computerised logistics system. The company is now using the company’s Manhattan SCALE technology, which is designed to improve inventory control, picking and utilisation of warehouse space. It believes the benefits are already starting to show.
"Following the deployment of Manhattan's system we have a much more efficient warehouse. Over the Christmas period, we were able to employ temporary staff to fulfil internet orders for the first time because the training of staff on the technology-supported picking process took just 15 minutes, rather than the four months it took previously in the manual environment. Without Manhattan we simply would not have been able to process anywhere close to the quantity of orders we were able to fulfil."
