High hopes for China-Costa Rica FTA

08/04/2010

Chinese officials hope a new free trade agreement (FTA) it signed with Costa Rica on April 8 will really benefit exporters. It was signed by China’s commerce minister, Chen Deming, and Costa Rica’s foreign trade minister, Marco Vinicio Ruiz.

When the agreement takes effect, 90% of commodities will be tariff free within a few years. These products include raw hides and skins, leather, chemicals and textiles.

The FTA is expected to be implemented in the second half of the year.
