Fujian leathergoods exports up 51%
Leathergoods exports from China’s Fujian province rise 51.4% to $250 million in January and February, according to statistics from Xiamen customs. The increase has been attributed to a rise in the export tax rebate rate and to increasing demand from overseas.
According to the figures, privately owned and foreign firms represent 87.7% of total leather export production in Fujian province, with private enterprises exporting goods worth $140 million and foreign firms exporting goods worth $80 million during the two-month period.
Exports to the EU rose 34.1% year-on-year to $90 million, while exports to the US grew 50.3% to $80 million. Combined, exports to these regions accounted for 66.7% of the province’s leathergoods exports.
Xiamen, Fuzhou and Quanzhou are the top main leather producing cities in the Fujian province.
