Bangladesh’s leather exports fall

According to Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau the country’s total leather exports fell 2.9% to $237.8 million between July 2009 and January 2010 compared with $239.9 million during the same period last year.

The breakdown showed leather exports during the period totalled $114.9 million compared with $116 million during the prior-year period, a decline of 0.9%. Shoe exports fell 2.4% to $113.1 million from $115.8 million.

However, leather bag and purse exports rose 21.7% to $9.8 million from $8.1 million during the same period.

Bangladesh’s annual export target for leather bags and purses is $22 million, while the target for leather is $230 million and the target for footwear is $224.3 million.
