ICHSLTA holds AGM in Hong Kong

31/03/2010

The International Council for Hide Skins and Leather Traders’ Associations (ICHSLTA) held its eighty-first annual general meeting at the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre on March 28.

Delegates from China, the US, France, Australia, Turkey and other countries took part in the meeting to discuss the current state of the leather market, globally and nationally.

All countries faced difficulties in 2009, delegates agreed, but most have begun to see a gradual recovery in the first months of this year.

Delegates agreed that from now on, ICHSLTA members will share information every month, putting news from each country onto the organisation's website. There will also be a monthly newsletter. It also committed to devoting more energy to working jointly with bodies such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the Food and Agriculture Organisation.

It will also continue to promote the international contracts, Contracts 6 and 7, for hide trading around the world and work closely with the International Council of Tanners to “improve the rules of trade”.

The Japanese Leather Industry Association was officially adopted as a full member of ICHSLTA, while the Proyecto Catalana del Cuero, a wholesale raw hide trading group based near Barcelona, became an associate member.

Madam Zhang Shuhua, president of the China Leather Industry Association was re-elected president for the next term. Her vice-presidents will be Nick Winters of French hide trading group SGCP and John Reddington of the US Hide, Skin and Leather Association.
