29/03/2010
A Uruguayan packer company, Breeders & Packers, has announced that it will pay livestock farmers a bonus if they deliver good quality cattle to its abattoir in the Durazno department of the country.
Set up by a UK company to supply meat to the UK market, Breeders & Packers said it would accept for slaughter all grades of animal, but that it would pay more for higher quality beasts.
Company president, Roberto Palma, said on announcing the purchasing policy: “We are thinking ahead. We want to set this up as a model company and if we encourage quality now, there will be a benefit in the years to come.”
