Florence's artisan leather tradition before UNESCO

24/03/2010

A consultant and lawyer based in Florence, Elisabetta Cianfanelli, is to make a presentation to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) asking it to make the city's tradition of artisan leathergoods manufacture part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.

"The historical centre of the city of Florence is already a World Heritage site," Ms Cianfanelli explained in advance of her presentation in Paris, "but there is also a non-material heritage that includes traditions and know-how. In the case of Florence, the tradition of leathercraft is one of the fundamental riches of the area."
