The Italian leather industry is making progress in putting its house in order with regard to financial probity.

The industry is working with the authorities to stop tax evasion. In a landmark case, one tannery in the Arzignano cluster has come under scrutiny for failing to pay around EUR 2 million in value added tax. Some of the directors of the company, as well as their counterparts in one Montebello-based partner company, have recently received heavy fines and prison sentences of up to two years.
