Argentina halts beef exports
17/03/2010
The government of Argentina suspended exports of fresh beef from the country on March 12.
It sent an official notice to major packer firms, informing them of the development.
The government said it had become concerned about the rising price of beef on the domestic market and was taking this step to try to bring local prices back under control.
Packers have reported that even consignments of beef that had been approved and dispatched before March 12 have been held up at ports and airports.
