The state government in Rajasthan in India has decided to include leather in a list of essential products that will be exempt from an increase in value added tax (VAT).

VAT levels in the state are to rise in April from 4% to 5%, but the state government announced on March 10 that the level of the tax on essential food and industrial items would stay at 4%. It included leather among these items.
