Hide exports from Brazil continue strong start to 2010
10/03/2010
Brazil's hide and leather exports for the first two months of 2010 brought in a combined revenue of US$234 million.
The Brazilian Tannery Association (CICB) said the export value for the two months represented an increase of 59.2% on the figure for January and February 2010.
The total for February on its own was $130 million, which CICB said was an increase of 75.7% on the same month in 2009, and of 25% on the figure for January this year. The industry association's president, Wolfgang Goerlich, commented: "The results for the start of this year suggest a recovery for Brazil's hide and leather exports, which, at this rate, could bring in $1.5 billion for the full year in 2010."
