Vuitton turns IP protection sights on auto brand

Luxury leathergoods brand Louis Vuitton is taking action against Korean automotive brand Hyundai over copyright infringement.
The dispute is over an advertisement that Hyundai ran on US television in February. An image of a basketball in the commercial plagiarised the design of Louis Vuitton’s geometric Toile Monogram, the leathergoods brand has alleged.
Vuitton has claimed that Hyundai has caused and will continue to cause confusion to consumers by appearing to link the two brands.
Hyundai has replied by saying the advertisement was intended to be humourous and that there is no substance to Vuitton’s complaint.
