Mipel opens

03/03/2010

International leathergoods and accessories exhibition Mipel opened in Milan on March 3, running until March 6.

More than 420 exhibitors at the event presented their collections for the autumn-winter 2010–2011 season in 30,000 square-metres of space.

“Our sector, like many others in Italy, suffered a significant setback in 2009, with a 20% drop in exports compared to 2008,” said Giorgio Cannara, president of the Italian Leathergoods Manufacturers’ Association (Aimpes), organiser of the event. “According to forecasts, a more incisive recovery is expected in the second half of 2010. The comforting number of exhibitors at Mipel confirms the importance of the event. It is Milan’s date with the international world of leathergoods and accessories.”

Around 50 of the companies attending this time were first-time exhibitors.

There will be a change for Mipel in September. It will run from Sunday to Wednesday instead of Wednesday to Saturday, beginning Sunday, September 19 and ending Wednesday, September 22.
