Lanxess launches new colour forecast

Specialist leather chemicals supplier Lanxess has announced its colour and trend forecast for the spring-summer 2011 season. The company has produced its own collection of leather samples to show the trends it has identified for the season.

The trend collection was created at the competence centre that Lanxess runs in Italy. The centre includes a laboratory and applications development department at Santa Croce sull’ Arno in Tuscany.

The company says its samples will show tanners the kinds of appearance, surface touch and overall impression that are going to be in fashion for leather that season. The trend collection also includes formulations and practical processing suggestions so that tanneries are well prepared to reproduce the new trends, including floater type or washed look, waterproofed nubuck or negative embossed split leather, very soft and natural vegetable leather or glossy leather with gold effects.

There are three main themes: Water Emotion, Natural Lightness and Sportal Finesse.

For the first of these, Water Emotion, Lanxess says the three words ‘summer, sun and sea’ are enough to describe what it means. Oceanic motifs will dominate, it says, adding: “The power of the water not only takes away all concerns, it also generates personal excellence. Fresh colours like riviera and hot coral dominate the trend in combination with sandy shades, partly with metallic reflections.”

For the Natural Lightness theme, the focus is on “maximum levels of creativity and spirituality”, which the company claims turbulent periods tend to generate. “Quality and naturalness are in the spotlight,” the Lanxess trends team said. “Leathers are very soft and fine. Light colours like lint and apple blossom will be combined with stronger tones like carrot and excalibur.”

For the Sportal Finesse theme, the emphasis is on what the trends experts call a new balance between clarity and distinctiveness on the one hand and free expression and individuality on the other. Sports activity is part of this. This tendency affects fashion. The colour concepts are full of clear and powerful shades like blazing yellow in combination with violet and fluorite green.”
