Excitement in the build-up to awards

US-based leather and raw materials consultant, David Peters, has said that he believes major industry exhibitions are facing an important change.
An experienced global traveller, and frequent visitor to and speaker at events worldwide, Mr Peters believes shows these days are less about selling hides, chemicals and finished leather, and more about education, information and understanding.
In his opinion, initiatives such as Tannery of the Year make an important contribution to this. The awards programme will celebrate its first gala dinner and announce the first regional winners, as well as one global winner, in Hong Kong on March 29, during the APLF exhibition.
In a recent conversation with leatherbiz, Mr Peters said: "What you have done is helping provide people in the industry with a reason to go to the show. I've been speaking to people from all over the world who have told me that they are going to the show because they want to hear the Tannery of the Year announcement. That's what makes me think the most important reason to attend an exhibition these days is not to sell, but to learn, to network and to see who the movers and shakers are."
