Fears for Australian beef workers

Meat and Livestock Australia is predicting another tough year for meat processors, prompting fears about job losses and lower production levels within the industry.

The year’s cattle slaughter is expected to fall 4.5% to 7.4 million cattle, resulting in the lowest output level for 14 years.

Slaughter fell 3% in 2009 and exports also dropped, leading to a large number of job losses.
