Tannery of the Year: Asia finalists announced

The two tanneries, who will go forward to the inaugural Tannery of the Year Awards event, which will take place at APLF on March 29, 2010, are the PrimeAsia Vietnam tannery in Bà R?a–Vung Tàu, Vietnam, and the Tata International tannery in Dewas, India.
Both tanneries feature in extensive reports in the February-March issue of World Leather, with details of how they are responding to the challenges facing the tanning sector today.
With the focus on corporate social responsibility, Tannery of the Year's aim is to identify the two best tanneries in five regions around the world: China, the rest of Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Europe. We have published in World Leather in-depth reports into what makes these tanneries shining examples of good practice in all aspects of corporate social responsibility: environmental concerns, good relationships with employees, partners, suppliers and the local community, commitment to innovation and financial probity.
The driving force for this initiative came from the International Leather Forum in Paris in 2007, which urged the industry to do more to present leather in a positive light. Tannery of the Year is World Leather’s contribution to this.
