Counterfeit leathergoods seized

Italian police have reportedly confiscated a large shipment of fake designer clothing, shoes and leathergoods. The goods were being stored in eight industrial hangars in the San Basilio region of Rome and are believed to have originated from Asia.

The officials involved said that they were amazed by the quality of the 500,000 tonne seizure. While this is far from being the only fake goods find in recent years, it certainly contained the most convincing knock-offs including wallets, handbags and belts, which are big business in the capital because of their appeal to tourists.

It is believed the goods would have been branded with designer names and sold for several million euro had the discovery not been made.
