Fashion companies prepare to pause on patent leather

Big fashion brands are likely to use much less patent leather in coming collections, an influential trends consultant has warned.
During a presentation on leather trends for the summer 2011 season that she delivered at Le Cuir A Paris on February 11, French trends consultant Claude Vuillermet, that she still foresaw some patent leather in collections then, along with leathers with a slightly less exaggerated glazed look ("like the icing on a cake"), but a lot less than in recent seasons.
Later, Ms Vuillermet explained to leatherbiz: "There will be less patent leather for the simple reason that we've had so much of it, summer, winter, summer, winter, for two years solid. It has to change."
