Slight fall in Indian leather production
India’s industrial production levels continued to rise at the end of 2009, with production rising 16.8% in December compared with December 2008 figures.
The Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) released its Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP), which showed that the general index stood at 331.7. An official statement said the cumulative growth for the period April-December stood at 8.6% compared with the prior-year period.
According to the figures, 14 of the 17 industry groups included showed positive growth in December. However, leather and leather and fur products was one of the three that showed negative growth, although the decline was slight at 0.1%.
