Details of BA’s new luxury first-class cabin revealed

Following a £100 million investment and several years of design and preparation, British Airways’ new first-class cabin launched on February 10. The new interior has been installed in a Boeing 777, which flies from London to Chicago.

The new colour scheme was inspired by the Naval Barathea fabric worn by senior Royal Navy officers, which comes in a deep blue-black. This is combined with rich cream leather and dark red glass to fit in with the airline’s traditional red, white and blue theme.

According to the company, it includes fully flat seats made using double-stitched leather which would “feel at home in the world's most prestigious motor cars” and “demonstrates hours of exceptional craftsmanship”.

Other key features include a leather-bound writing table, a personal wardrobe, a 15-inch in-flight entertainment screen and adjustable electronic blinds. The suites also have a “buddy” seat, which enables flyers to dine together.

British Airways’ head of customer experience, Mark Hassell, said: “We have contemporised First and created an intimate private jet experience onboard. We have resisted gadgets and gimmicks and focused instead on simplicity and quality. Every feature has been carefully considered and researched to ensure we are giving our customers what they want.”

Actress Rachel Weisz, who was on board to promote the launch, said: “For style, stellar service and complete luxury, it doesn’t get better than British Airways’ new First cabin.”
