South Africa to buy Brazilian beef again
Brazilian agriculture minister, Reinhold Stephanes, said that South Africa was planning to lift its embargo on Brazilian beef, which has been in place since 2005.
In November, the two governments signed an agreement to try to solve business problems hindering exports and imports of goods between the two nations.
South Africa still has some health concerns about Brazilian meat, including pork, but the Brazilian authorities claim its meat products meet the international standards and that the ban should be completely lifted.
Initially, Brazil will only export boneless beef to South Africa; however, Mr Stephanes said this was a very positive first step, particularly as the export business has been struggling so much in recent months.
