Good news for Northampton leather students

08/02/2010

Three third-year BA Fashion students at the University of Northampton have received leathercraft bursaries from The Worshipful Company of Curriers.

Garry Butterfield was presented with £500, while Robyn Hedley and Alex Newton received £250 each towards their final-year collections.

The students had to submit a proposal to the company about their work and how the bursaries would help them. David Moss, clerk at The Worshipful Company of Curriers, commented: “These bursaries reinforce the Curriers’ commitment to support excellence in leathercraft in all its guises. The company looks forward to a long-lasting relationship with the University of Northampton.”

As well as presenting the bursaries, the company toured the university’s onsite tannery at Park Campus and the NVision centre based within the School of Science and Technology.

Debbie Greaves, head of development at the university, said: “Any financial award makes a real difference to the students as they prepare their final-year collections but the recognitions of their talent by a London Livery company are particularly valuable. The students were superb ambassadors for the university and meeting with the Curriers representatives meant that it was a truly memorable experience for all of them.”
