ANCI competition focuses on 3D graphics

With 3D cinema becoming a major hit in recent months, ANCI, the Italian Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers, is to focus on 3D graphics as its third Creative Award competition gets underway.

The 2010 edition of the award is called ‘Beautifully shaped: 3D shoes’, and, as in previous editions, aims to gain a better understanding of how the younger generation sees Italian shoes.

“We are very interested in understanding the perception young people have of Italian-made shoes,” says ANCI director, Fabio Aromatici, “and in understanding their opinion of the sector’s brands and companies.

“The first two editions of the competition met with excellent feedback, and for this third one we want to launch a stimulus that involves cutting-edge graphics and technology.”

Creative youngsters from all over the world can get involved, and one of the key criteria set by ANCI is that people focus on three-dimensional design aspects for any reinterpretations of the shoe they submit.

Twenty of the pieces submitted will be on show at Micam, which takes place in Milan from March 2-5. They will also appear in a 3D film produced by Crackartoons Studios, ANCI’s partner in staging the initiative. The shoe that wins the competition will play a starring role in the film. The film will be shown at Micam on March 4 and the cash prize will also be given out at the event.

“In these weeks,” concludes Mr Aromatici, “3D technology is experiencing success in cinemas around the world with Avatar. We also think that this technology can do great things for making shoes, which are already beautiful in themselves, even more spectacular.”
