The management team at the specialist Menemen leather sector industrial park in Izmir, Turkey, has organised a series of dedicated 'Quality Days' to help the tanneries operating there improve their ability to address the needs of the export market.

The Menemen facility is best known for the quality of nappa leather the tanneries there produce for the leather garments industry.

Its management team insists that the site already had in place advanced technology and a strong focus on exports and on fashion, but the result of the new exercise is that Menemen also secured accreditation under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001.

One of the directors, Eyup Sevimli, said the new accreditations were an indication that Menemen tanneries were able to keep up with international regulations on quality, health and safety and the environment. And he added: "
At the moment, as far as we know, none of our competitor leather industry zones in other countries has obtained these standards."
