Venezuelan delegation on tanning mission

27/01/2010

Officials from the Venzuelan state of Apure have completed a fact-finding visit to the province of Corrientes in northeastern Argentina.

The visitors wanted to gather information and advice on setting up a number of industrial projects, with leather and leathergoods production high on the list.

The group paid particular attention to tanning processes and to leathergoods manufacture involving the skins of capybara.

Capybara live in large numbers in Venezuela, and throughout South America. In several countries, the practice of using the skins to make fine leathergoods, such as high-end gloves, has been in place for some time.
