New finish option from Eagle Ottawa

Automotive industry leather supplier Eagle Ottawa has introduced a new finish option that it has called Ansolé.

It has designed the new product as a soil- and stain-resistant leather finish system.

The company explaned that, with automobile interiors trending toward lighter colours, there is a greater need for interior materials to resist soiling and staining, not least from denim. It said it had developed the Ansolé finish system based on feedback from automotive brands and tier-one suppliers. It said it was currently showing the new product to customers and expected Ansolé to feature in several vehicles in the near future.

Eagle Ottawa's vice-president for research and development, Nathan Mullinix, said on announcing the development: “Our proprietary finish system employs both physical and chemical technologies that create a surface that is highly immune to the attraction of soiling agents. It has a pleasant soft touch and Ansolé meets all OEM engineering requirements and can be added to any current construction.”

The company explained that Ansolé adds "inherently soil-resistant character to the leather finishing system", rather than through a secondary coating, and said it had also improved cross-linking and would give car seats "a smoother microscopic surface topography", to give dye or soil particles  fewer opportunities to become "physically entrapped in the topcoat film".

Eagle Ottawa's claim is that Ansolé will make light coloured leathers up to 65% more stain resistant and up to 75% more cleanable against denim dye transfer.
