Pakistan: leather export values still falling

The value of Pakistan’s leather sector exports fell by 5.7% during the month of December 2009 to $63.7 million from $67.6 million in November 2009 and also fell by 13.3% if compared with December 2008 ($73.5 million), according to data released by country’s official Federal Bureau of Statistics.

The breakdown showed that during December 2009 the country exported leather worth $22.7 million, leathergoods worth $34.9 million and footwear worth $6.1 million, compared to $24.1 million, $36.7 million and $6.7 million respectively in the previous month.

Pakistan’s total leather sector exports during the first six months of the current financial year (July to December 2009) fell by 24.2% to $416.8 million from $550.1 million in same period last year.
