Dutch furniture brand to use more leather
20/01/2010
Leolux, the Netherlands' biggest designer furniture producer, has announced that it will use more high-quality leather in its 2010 collections.
In a press statement at the 2010 IMM exhibition in Cologne, Leolux said that it would give the luxury furniture segment more attention in 2010 after two years during which the company has focused more on "keenly priced design". In contrast, the focus this year will be on "generously dimensioned models" that contain high-quality leather.
The Cumulus sofa, created by German designer Gabrliele Assmann, is a good example. It uses leather extensively and has adjustable seats and backs to let users define their personal level of seating comfort. According to Leolux, the large amounts of leather lend the Cumulus "an especially rich look".
One of the things the Dutch company said it wanted to do at IMM was to present itself as a supplier of high-quality leather. That has resulted in the presentation at the exhibition of two new types of upholstery leather, which have the product names Bronto and Suave.
Bronto distinguishes itself through its thickness (around 2 millimetres), its smooth surface and robust appearance. The thick nubuck Suave offers six different colours, soft grip and natural elegance.
Two Leolux armchairs, the Pallone Limited and the Collana, have been nominated for the Interior Innovation Award 2010, a prestigious prize at the IMM event.
