Ethiopia to focus on the finished article

Ethiopia's trade and industry minister, Girma Birru, has said that the Ethiopia’s leather industry is growing strongly. He made the comments during a four-day meeting with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

He said the growth was the result of investment in the industry by the government, and because of quantity and quality of hides and skins in the African country.

He predicted that over the next five years, the amount of finished leather and consumer-ready leathergoods being exported from Ethiopia would increase greatly, and that shipments of raw and semi-finished leather would decrease.
