Tannery of the Year: Asia nominations announced
19/01/2010
World Leather magazine and its Tannery of the Year partners are delighted to announce the names of the tanneries that have been nominated for the Awards for Asia (excluding China). China is a separate category in the awards programme.
There are eleven tanneries on the list, all of which will receive recognition of their achievement, including permission to use the special Tannery of the Year Awards logo on corporate material for three years.
Two of the tanneries will be shortlisted. These two finalists will receive in-depth coverage in the February-March 2010 issue of World Leather and will then go forward to represent their region at the inaugural Tannery of the Year Awards event that will take place at APLF in Hong Kong on March 29, 2010.
In alphabetical order, the eleven tanneries are:
Budi Makmur Jayamurni, Indonesia
Daehwa Leather Lestari, Indonesia
Eastern Group, Pakistan
Farida Prime, India
Forward Leather Group, India
Interhides Public Co Ltd, Thailand
Mohammad Ismail Mohammad Aslam, Pakistan
Presidency Kid Leather Ltd, India
PrimeAsia Vietnam, Vietnam
Shafi Tanneries, Pakistan
TATA International Ltd, India
Congratulations to all our nominated tanneries.
We shall announce the two finalists from this group in the coming weeks.
After this region, Asia excluding China, the visits and reports for the first edition of the Tannery of the Year Awards will be complete.
With the focus on corporate social responsibility, the programme's aim is to identify the two best tanneries in five regions around the world: China, the rest of Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Europe. We will publish in World Leather in-depth reports into what makes these tanneries shining examples of good practice in all aspects of corporate social responsibility: environmental concerns, good relationships with employees, partners, suppliers and the local community, commitment to innovation and financial probity.
The driving force for this initiative came from the International Leather Forum in Paris in 2007, which urged the industry to do more to present leather in a positive light. Tannery of the Year is World Leather’s contribution to this.
