Indianapolis Fire Department chooses special gloves

The Indianapolis Fire Department has placed an order for 1,700 pairs of special leather gloves from UK manufacturer Southcombe Brothers.

The gloves, the company's Firemaster 4 Kovenex model, have an outer construction made from a proprietary leather called Pyrohide, which is made water- and chemical-resistant through a patented process. The gloves also protect firefighters by being able to resist flame, tears and cuts.

The Indianapolis Fire Department carried out field testing over a ninth-month period before deciding to buy the product.
