Australian beef exports fall

14/01/2010

The department of agriculture in Australia has reported a 3% drop in the volume of the country’s beef and veal exports in 2009, compared to the previous year.

Last year’s total volume, 927,000 tonnes, is also 1% below the average volume for the last five years.

Industry sources in Australia have blamed the economic downturn in important export markets, including Japan and the US, and on the high levels of the country’s currency on international exchange markets.
