Zambia triples its leather exports

13/01/2010

The leather industry in Zambia has grown its export revenues by 300% in recent years to reach $10 million in 2008, the latest for which full-year figures are available.

However, a senior government official has warned that the industry will need to develop the expertise of the people working in it and invest in new technology if this growth is to continue.

The permanent secretary of the African country’s Western province, Ikanuke Noyoo, has said the Zambian industry should learn from its counterpart in Ethiopia and move more production into finished leather and leathergoods.
