Paraguay exports more meat

11/01/2010

Official figures show that Paraguay increased the volume of its meat exports in 2009, but saw the value of these exports decline.

The figures for last year show exports of almost 170,000 tonnes of meat, which brought in $516 million in revenues. This compared to volumes of 162,000 in 2008, but revenues then were $595 million.

The authorities in the South American country have said the fall in value of the US dollar is the reason for the lower value of its meat exports last year.

The main export market for packers operating in Paraguay are Chile, Russia, Taiwan and Israel.
