Buckman reassures local community after fire
08/01/2010
Specialist leather chemicals manufacturer Buckman has made it clear that the fire at its headquarters in Memphis on January 7 caused no major damage.
In a press statement issued later that day the company confirmed that a light, gas and water transformer in one of the buildings at the site had caught fire, but that Memphis Fire Department extinguished it in around 20 minutes.
The fire was near a control room area and did not involve any chemical products or processing equipment.
"It involved no chemical release of any kind, and thus created no impact to the local community or environment," the statement said. "Buckman’s Emergency Response Plan was enacted immediately, and the emergency team was able to quickly evacuate the plant and office buildings, confirm that there were no injuries, and that all employees were safe and accounted for. Buckman is still assessing some minor damage and has some power loss to some buildings but back-up generators are in place to keep operations running for customers."
