Vietnam’s footwear exports in decline
06/01/2010
Vietnam has confirmed a fall in earnings from footwear exports of 15.8% for 2009. The value of the shoes exported from Vietnam during the year was $4 billion.
According to the general statistics office, exports to all key markets fell sharply, but the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association said that the EU’s decision to continue imposing anti-dumping duties on imports of Vietnamese leather shoes had caused many footwear companies to cut production levels by between 10% and 30% in comparison with 2008.
The sector has a target of earning export revenues of $6.2 billion in 2010 and $11.4 billion by 2015 by increasing the use of domestically made materials.
