China comments on final anti-dumping decision

22/12/2009

According to a spokesperson for the Chinese commerce ministry Yao Jian, the government is "strongly dissatisfied” by the EU’s decision to extend anti-dumping duties on leather shoes produced in China and Vietnam.

The duties, which were introduced in 2006, have been extended for 15 months from January.

Mr Yao said China would appeal to the World Trade Organization in light of the decision. "We have noticed that EU importers, retailers, and many member countries show opposition to the anti-dumping measures. We hope the EU could respect facts, follow the wishes of European people and stop such anti-dumping measures," he said. "Trade protectionism can only hurt mutual trust and lead to losses to both sides."
