Tragedy on the Danny F II
A ship believed to be carrying 83 people, 10,224 sheep and 17,932 cattle capsized off the coast of Lebanon on December 17 during stormy weather.
Rescue workers are still searching for around 20 of the Panamanian-flagged Danny FII’s crew. Its British captain went down with the ship, while at least 38 sailors were rescued by a rescue team comprising Lebanese naval vessels, a British helicopter from Cyprus and three ships belonging to the United Nations in south Lebanon.
Hopes of finding any other survivors are thought to be slim.
Crew members were from Australia, Russia, Lebanon, the UK, Syria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Uruguay.
