Colombian sales recovery led by leathergoods
Retail sales in Colombia rose 0.8% in October compared with October 2008 figures, according to the country’s national statistics office, DANE.
The rise was led by an impressive increase in shoe and leathergoods sales, which rose 10.4% year-on-year. Newspaper and stationary sales rose 10%.
The biggest sales declines were seen for car lubricants (-17.8%) and vehicle accessories (-11.5%).
Furthermore, while the country’s January to October retail sales have fallen 4%, shoe and leathergoods have risen, along with computer equipment and domestic goods. Car and motorbike sales fell 20.3%.
