Premium leather jackets inspired by Disney’s first black princess

The first ever black Disney princess will hit the big screen in The Princess and the Frog, which opens in the US on December 11. The animated film giant has chosen Mychael Darwin to create a leather jacket line inspired by the film.

Mr Darwin, who has created customised leather and denim apparel for the likes of Bill Clinton and Michael Jackson, is to make a limited-edition jacket line decorated with a picture of the film’s protagonist, Princess Tiana. The jackets will be made from premium Italian leather and will feature hand-carved sterling silver buttons as well as artwork taken from the film. The line will also include denim jackets with leather trimmings and Swarovski crystals, and a Princess Tiana leather pillow.

The designer said he hoped the collection would fulfil every woman’s desire of being “treated like royalty”. Prices will range from $150 to $1,500.
